Self Regulation

Some seasons of life bring emotions that feel bigger than usual, harder to predict, harder to sit with, harder to explain to the people around you. This can show up during hormonal shifts like menopause, during major life changes, or simply when stress has built up faster than you've had space to process it.

Penny works with clients across Ontario, online and in person in Peterborough, to help steady the nervous system and build a more grounded relationship with your emotions. As a professional Art Therapist, she often uses creative practices alongside conversation to help make sense of what's happening internally, even when it's hard to put into words.

You don't have to just push through this. There's support for finding your footing again.

Struggling to manage emotions or noticing behaviours that hold you back? Penny

Hope offers self regulation therapy in Ontario, online or in person in Peterborough.

What Is Self Regulation?

Self regulation is the ability to notice, understand, and manage your emotional responses, especially when life feels unpredictable. When it's disrupted, whether by hormonal changes, chronic stress, or a shift in quality of life, everyday moments can start to feel harder than they should.

Therapy helps you understand what's driving these responses and build tools to move through them with more steadiness, rather than being swept up by them.

A Creative Approach to Steadiness

When emotions feel too big for words, creative practices can offer another way through. As a professional Art Therapist, Penny uses these tools alongside conversation to help externalize what's happening internally, making it easier to notice patterns and build calm before things escalate. No artistic skill is needed. The process itself is what helps you reconnect with a steadier sense of self.

What to Expect

Sessions begin with understanding what's been happening for you: the changes, the triggers, and how they've been showing up day to day. From there, the work is paced around you, blending conversation with creative practices to help build tools you can lean on between sessions too.

Over time, the goal is more steadiness, even during the seasons that feel unpredictable.

My Approach

I have a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology, and I'm a Registered Psychotherapist and professional Art Therapist, supervised by Dr. Pati Beaudoin, Registered Psychologist. I work through a trauma-informed lens, with training in Neurographica, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and EMDR.

With self regulation work, this often means combining somatic awareness with creative practices, helping you notice what's happening in your body and emotions before they take over.
