Self-Esteem Therapy

Low self-esteem doesn't always look like what people expect. It can show up as second-guessing yourself, staying quiet when you have something to say, or feeling like you're never quite enough, no matter what you accomplish.

Penny works with clients across Ontario, online and in person in Peterborough, to explore where these patterns come from and how to build a steadier sense of self.

As a professional Art Therapist, she often brings creative practices into this work, giving you a way to notice and shift the inner voice that's been running the show. This is a non-judgmental space to reconnect with who you are, underneath the doubt.

What Shapes
Self-Esteem?

Self-esteem is rarely about one event, it's usually built from years of messages, relationships, and experiences that shaped how you see yourself. Childhood dynamics, past relationships, workplace pressure, or simply years of self-criticism can all wear down confidence over time.

Therapy creates space to notice these patterns without judgment, understand where they came from, and start building a version of self-worth that isn't dependent on outside approval.

A Creative Path
to Self-Worth

Talking through self-esteem struggles is valuable, but the inner critic doesn't always respond to logic alone. Art therapy offers another way in, using creative process to externalize self-doubt, notice it more clearly, and begin to soften its grip. You don't need any artistic experience. The value isn't in what's created, it's in what the process reveals about how you see yourself, and what becomes possible when that starts to shift.

What to Expect

Sessions start with understanding your story, where these patterns of self-doubt began, and what they look like in your daily life now. From there, work is paced around you, blending conversation with creative practices when it's useful to slow things down and get underneath the surface. Over time, the goal is a sense of self-worth that holds steady, even when life gets hard.

My Approach

I have a Master's degree in Clinical Psychology, and I'm a Registered Psychotherapist and professional Art Therapist, supervised by Dr. Pati Beaudoin, Registered Psychologist. I work through a trauma-informed lens, with training in Neurographica, Internal Family Systems (IFS), and EMDR.

With self-esteem work, this often means using IFS to understand the different parts of you driving self-criticism, paired with creative practices to build a more compassionate relationship with yourself.
